Artist Statement
Growing up in a midwestern city with family roots in small town farming communities, I have nostalgia for both the cityscape and rural landscape.  I am drawn to remnants of the past, old building structures and architecture, as well as wide open skies and lovely landscapes.  It is the city’s historic architecture, warehouses, water towers, train tracks and alleyways that speak to me, while in the country, it is in the aging barns, farmhouses, and open lands that I find so much beauty.  It is the quiet isolation and calm emptiness of these spaces that appeal to me.  Rich in surface, texture, and color, these spaces become the compositions from which my work begins.

Artist Bio
Artist Jennifer Giesler is a painter specializing in oil painting, watercolor, chalk drawing and pastel.  Much of her works are expressionistic cityscapes and landscapes.  She is drawn to the rich patterns of color, shape, and texture of the city and the land, and the compositions that these create; these become the source for much of her work.  She has recently reintroduced portraiture and the figure into her work and is excited to be revisiting the human spirit.  Her works can be found in homes, schools, and businesses throughout Kansas City, Seattle, Detroit, and Chicago.

Born and raised in Kansas City, MO, Jennifer is a graduate of the Kansas City Art Institute.  After graduating she moved to Seattle, WA where she lived and worked for three years.  She then moved to Chicago, returning to the Midwest, which she loves and considers home.
